November 2, 1955

Dear colleague: The purpose of the present letter is to inform you of the status of the Jakobson volume. We are happy to report that substantial progress has been made in the planning of the volume. The publisher of the volume will be Mouton & Co., The • . Hague, Holland. It will be a very large book since we have received acceptances from over a hundred scholars. As of this writing a number of contributions have already reached us, and we are about to forward them to the printer. We should like to remind you at this time that the dead- line is December 31, 1955. The deadline must be strictly observed if the volume is to be ready in October 1956. As we have stated in a previous letter, contributions are to be sent to Professor Morris Halle, Department of Modern Languages, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge 39, Mass. Please indicate on your manuscript the address to which you wish the printer to send the proofs. We hope that the printer will begin to mail out the proofs in the spring. It appears, however, quite likely that proofs may not reach some contributors until after the beginning of the summer vacations. Should you change your address before proofs reach you, please make all arrangements to have the proofs promptly read and returned to the printer.

Sincerely yours,

Morris Halle For the Editorial Committee
